Pelckmans Offices
Gent, Belgium - 2021

This workspace commission for Belgian publisher Pelckmans Uitgevers contains the transformation of a listed warehouse in the centre of Gent. The project consists of 2 buildings, a three-storey terraced house with a unique façade and a two-storey warehouse with a double-height second floor.
The approach of the commission was to create a contemporary 21st century informal workspace with a flexible program of workspaces, meeting rooms and a multipurpose area, which is in dialogue with it’s original context. The design need to create an inspiring environment flooded with natural light.
By preserving and implementing some of the existing structural and decorative elements in combination with the new structural elements such as dark stained wooden beams, sandblasted concrete stairs and blackened steel, a harmony is created which refers to the industrial past of the building. The combination of the rather raw structural elements, masonry walls & vaulted ceiling with the warm, soft and subtle luxurious natural materials of the interior such as wood flooring, larch veneer carpentry, soft carpet & fabrics and natural stone lead to a sophisticated aesthetic design.
